Also known as Monthly Shivratri, Shiv Chaturdashi, Masa Shivaratri and Ashwin Shivratri.
The monthly night of Shiva, on the fourteenth of the waning moon. Worship is done in Nishita Kaal, the middle of the night, when Shiva is held to have first appeared as the endless pillar of light whose top and bottom neither Brahma nor Vishnu could find. The Phalguna one is Maha Shivratri; the other eleven are kept in the same way, with less scale.
