The spiritual contract · Gotra explained · What if you don't know yours · What you hear in the video
Sankalp (Sanskrit: संकल्प) means 'intention' or 'resolve' — but in ritual context it is more than an intention. It is a formal declaration, made before the deity, that establishes:
Without the sankalp, the puja is a generic act of worship performed for no one. With the sankalp, it becomes a specific spiritual contract — a covenant between you and Maa Baglamukhi, witnessed by Agni (the sacred fire) and by the pandit performing the ritual.

Gotra is your ancestral sage-lineage — the name of the Vedic rishi (sage) from whom your family's spiritual lineage descends. Common gotras include: Kashyap, Bharadwaj, Vashistha, Atri, Garg, Gautam, Agastya, Vishwamitra, Jamadagni, Shaunaka.
In the Vedic system, gotras trace the male lineage of a family through a founding sage. They are used in all major life rituals: birth, the sacred thread ceremony (upanayana), marriage, and death. In a puja sankalp, the gotra is declared because it positions the devotee within the complete spiritual lineage of Vedic tradition — connecting them not just as an individual but as part of an unbroken chain from the founding rishis to the present day.
If you do not know your gotra, write 'Kashyap' when booking.
Kashyap is the most universal gotra and is accepted for those whose lineage is unknown. The pandit will declare "Kashyap gotra" in your sankalp — this is scripturally valid and does not reduce the puja's efficacy.

When you receive your puja video, the sankalp is the opening section. You will hear:
"[Your full name], [your gotra], residing in [your city, country] — this puja is being performed."
This is spoken in Sanskrit with your details inserted. This is the moment that makes the puja yours.
Q: Will the pandit pronounce my name correctly?
A: Our pandits are experienced with names from all regions and languages. If your name is particularly complex, you can provide a phonetic spelling when booking or contact us at +91 90796 20532 before your puja date.
Q: Can I book for a family member?
A: Yes. Provide their full name and gotra. The sankalp will be taken in their name. Many devotees book pujas on behalf of parents, siblings, or spouses.
Q: मेरा गोत्र नहीं पता — क्या पूजा हो सकती है?
A: हाँ। 'कश्यप' गोत्र लिख दें। यह सार्वभौमिक रूप से स्वीकार किया जाता है जब गोत्र ज्ञात नहीं हो।
Q: Does the gotra have to be the father's lineage?
A: Traditionally yes — gotra follows the paternal line. However, if you are adopted, or if the paternal lineage is unknown, use Kashyap or your known lineage.
