Krishna's killing of the demon Narakasura, and the day of the abhyanga snan -- the pre-dawn oil bath taken before sunrise, which is held to wash away the year's accumulated impurity. In Gujarat the same night is Kali Chaudas, given to Kali and to the burning off of laziness and ill fortune.
